About Tina Godinger, LCSW

Having been raised in an Italian family, Tina was curious about the impact that her parents and relatives had on her life. She decided that she would like to make a career in understanding families and help children in the process.

Tina began her career as a child/family therapist at a community mental health agency outside Philadelphia.  Upon moving to New York, Tina was a clinician and then Assistant Director with the Jewish Board of Family and Children Services.  She provided family assessments and therapy for family court probation.  The mission was to keep teens home and out of residential care.  These experiences highlighted the importance for early support and education for parents.

The desire to strengthen families and help couples took on a more personal meaning when Tina started her own family.  When new  moms would share their experiences, Tina realized that couples needed more information.  The average couple was less prepared than they could be for transitioning to parenthood.  The relationship between partners would get lost in the midst of all the changes.

Tina specializes in helping people rebuild their relationships.  Whether she is working with an individual, couple, or family, she attempts to create better understanding and increase empathy. Tina works to change one's home environment by creating intimacy, and a culture of appreciation.  With a combination of concrete behavioral changes and more meaningful conversations, individuals can bring hope into their lives.

Tina received her graduate degree from Bryn Mawr College and postgraduate training from Ackerman Institute for the Family.  She is also a Level 2 Gottman Therapist and received advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples.  Tina most recently completed advanced training with Postpartum Stress Center, which is nationally recognized for the treatment of Postpartum Depression and Anxiety Disorders.

Tina has a private practice in Union Square.  She lives in Manhattan with her husband and three sons.
